Just the other day I noticed a survey crew setting up on the street near the front of my house. When they returned for the second time two days later, my curiosity was peaked. Such intensive scrutiny must be the harbinger of some major construction to follow. A new home? Rerouting of the road? A new landing strip for aircraft? Not really! A neighbor across the street had decided to fence in their yard and wanted to be certain of the boundaries before work commenced. As it turns out, this was a really good idea as the south property line was not where the homeowner or their adjoining neighbor thought. One now has less grass to mow and the other has more. Having a land survey done before you complete the purchase of real estate or begin a construction project may help avoid boundary line problems in the future. And you just might stop cutting the neighbor’s grass for free.
